Kenya's Abraham Kiptum is the new World half Marathon record holder.

The Daegu Marathon champion on Sunday shattered the long-standing record held by Eritrean Zersenay Tadese after clocking 58:19 to win the Valencia half Marathon on Sunday.

A personal best

Kiptum shaved off four seconds from the previous record set by Tadese in Lisbon in 2010, setting a world best time of 58mins 18sec for the half-marathon when he won the Valencia race.

The 29-year-old Kiptum came second in the Copenhagen half-marathon last month and has a personal best time of 2hrs 05mins 26sec for a marathon set at Amsterdam in October 2017.
