Uganda's Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga was Saturday evacuated to Nairobi for treatment.

Ms Kadaga had been admitted Thursday at the Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, where she was said to have been receiving treatment for fatigue-related illness.

According to a statement from her office, the Speaker was taken ill upon her return from New York having travelled there from Rabat, Morocco, where she had added the 14th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Conference (PUOIC).

Ms Kadaga was in the US for the 63rd UN Commission on the Status of Women which ends Saturday.

Mr Sam Obbo, the Speaker's spokesman said that she had to be admitted in hospital "due to the hectic work schedule, fatigue and jetlag."

According to sources at Nakasero Hospital, Ms Kadaga was unconscious at the time of her admission and was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
