Covid-19: Tanzania reports two more deaths as cases rise to 32

Tanzania has recorded two new coronavirus deaths, Health Minister Ummy Mwalimu has announced.

"We are sad to announce, we have lost two patients to Covid-19, raising number of deaths to three," Ms Mwalimu said on Friday.

The patients, males aged 51 and 57, died Friday and had been admitted at a health facility in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

Meanwhile confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country jumped to 32 after five more people tested positive in Dar es Salaam.

Patients who have recovered are five.

24 patients are still under treatment in Dar es Salaam and in the semi-autonomous island of Zanzibar.

Ms Mwalimu urged Tanzanians to continue taking precautions to prevent further infections and to report at any medical centre if they develop any symptoms of the disease.

The government has suspended social gatherings, concerts and ordered the closure of schools and colleges.
