Commuters in Tanzania's commercial capital Tuesday started enjoying service by the Dar es Salaam Bus Rapid Transit (Dart) following the official launch.

Dart will offer services connecting the city centre with parts of the Morogoro and Kawawa roads.

Early risers who were looking forward to beating the morning gridlock to town using the rapid shuttles were, however, disappointed as the Darts buses started operating from 10am (+3GMT).

Two category of busses are in operation.

The first one, referred to as express, only stops at a few stages, with the second, referred to as normal, stopping at every stage on its route.

The buses offered free service Tuesday and are expected to do so again Wednesday.
