Bandits kill 20 people in Nigeria

Bandits have killed at least 20 people in an attack on three villages in Katsina state, Nigeria.

The bandits attacked Sabon Layin Galadima, Mara Zamfarawa and Yar Gamji villages on Tuesday.

Some people are still missing after the attack.

Katsina Public Relations Officer Gambo Isah said two members of a vigilante group that went into the forest to confront the bandits were found dead and villagers buried them on Tuesday. Others are still missing.

A search party led by the police discovered a camp believed to have been abandoned by the bandits.

Residents on Wednesday protested against the attacks.

Governor Aminu Bello Masar assured them that the government would quash the bandits and put an end to the killings.

Katsina State is in northern Nigeria and has recently suffered from a string of attacks, including cattle raids and kidnappings.

Police have so far arrested 70 suspected bandits in the state.
