YVONNE MUINDE (KENYA)

Friday August 26 2011

There’s something that the movies Avatar, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Happy Feet and the new A-Team, all have in common – Yvonne Muinde. A truly prolific artist, the Kenyan has worked with some of the greatest directors in the world, on some of the most memorable movies of all time. She started painting at the age of ten, using her bedroom walls as canvases. Her debut “mural” on the wall depicted Asterix, from the famous comic books series, The Adventures of Asterix, while on another wall she painted a portrait of Bob Marley and the Wailers. Today, she “matte paints” with the latest technologies to create reality from imagination and integrate it into film. Muinde also has two paintings in the ‘Chemistry of Colour’ collection at the Philadelphia Fine Art Academy, America’s oldest museum. The two pieces are titled Freedoms Fighters and Blind Faith.
