Qatar Airways has launched daily flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania.
The route becomes its 18th gateway on the continent, second destination in Tanzania and 118th globally.
The Kilimanjaro region has the lion’s share of national parks, horticulture and tanzanite deposits. Airlines flying there include KLM, Edelweiss Air, Condor Air, Rwanda Air, Ethiopian Airlines and more recently, Kenya Airways.
Qatar Airways chief commercial officer Marwan Koleilat said: “The exposure of Kilimanjaro to the world through Qatar Airways’ global network will enable Tanzania to attract even more tourists and businesses.”
Tanzania Minister of Transport Dr Harrison Mwakyembe said the presence of Qatar at KIA would greatly boost social and economic activities.
