The I Art Map Rwanda is an online platform that seeks to gain visibility for local artists by connecting them to the public.

The online platform seeks to connect the public to instrumentalists, poets, painters, dancers, actors, writers and other creatives.
Initiated and co-ordinated by Ishyo Arts Centre, the online platform is one of the projects under the Rwanda Creative Sector National Action Plan for the Arts and Culture.

The main objective of the project is to engage arts and cultural practitioners, stakeholders, institutions in charge of culture, decision makers, experts, and communities in a bid to examine the current state of the sector and its potential in order to make recommendations and take action for the development of the arts and culture in Rwanda.

The online platform seeks to provide relevant information and regular updates on the development of arts and culture in Rwanda. It will also foster collaborations between local and international artists and cultural experts.

The initiative kicked off in 2015, following the artists’ registration by the Ministry of Sports and Culture. Registration of creatives started with art organisations like Ishyo Arts Centre, Mashirika Performing and Media Company, Goethe Institut, the French Institute, the British Council and then later the Rwanda Academy of Languages and Culture.

The online platform provides information about an artist’s calendar, which includes performances, showcases, tours, social media and contact information.

So far, over 6,000 artists have been registered, from over 20 districts.

“We go where the artists are, where they work from or reside as this crucial information for the online platform,” said Carole Karemera, an administrator spearheading the project. The process is free and open to all artists around the country.
