Shame of albino ritual murders
Despite the Tanzanian prime minister shedding tears during the just ended parliamentary sessions for people living with albinism, their killing for ritual purposes shamelessly continues.
In one of the latest of such incidents, suspects — including a clergyman — were arrested in Mbeya with parts alleged to have been severed from the body of a murdered albino.
Reports of albinos escaping being lynched for their body parts — believed to bring good fortune and business success — are coming in from different parts of the country.
Recently, four albinos fled to Zanzibar where they felt they would be safer due to the fact that no albino killings have been reported from the Isles.
The police in Zanzibar refused to disclose their names as the albinos themselves were apprehensive that the killers would follow them.
It is time Tanzanians asked themselves what has gone wrong in their society, because such acts were unheard of in the past.
This absurd and barbaric practice must stop at once.
