A presidential escort luxury BMW that was stolen in Nairobi has been recovered in Tororo, Uganda. Uganda Police and officers of the Flying Squad Unit on Tuesday evening recovered the escort bullet proof car that was stolen in Kenya on Wednesday last week week.

A team of investigators from Interpol and the Flying Squad left Nairobi for Tororo, Uganda, where the vehicle is said to have been driven to after it was stolen in Nairobi last Wednesday, according to media reports.

According to @NationFMKe, Bungoma CID chief and Head of the Flying Squad Nyale Munga Peter Mabeya said, “We are in contact with UG authorities who are now taking the car to Kampala for a probe.”

At the same time, investigators have arrested a man believed to be a crucial suspect in the carjacking and theft of the vehicle used by police officers attached to the Presidential Escort unit.

The suspect was arrested at a hotel in Bungoma town on Monday night by a second team of investigators from Nairobi's Flying Squad. Mr Mabeya confirmed the arrest.

Mr Asan Kasingye, the director of Interpol in Uganda, confirmed the recovery of the car. “It is true we have recovered it in Uganda,” Mr Kasingye said.

Last week, Kenya State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu said the robbed car was a BMW with private number plates but it wasn’t part of the fleet of vehicles currently used by President Uhuru.

The car was robbed from David Muchiri, its’ driver as he headed to his residence. Muchiri told police that armed men stopped him and put him on gunpoint before they took off with the car.
