Burundi recalls MPs from regional parliament

Burundi has recalled four of its nine members from the regional parliament, ahead of EALA sitting Monday in Kigali, Rwanda.

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Speaker Dan Kidega said he received a letter from Burundi’s parliament informing him that four Burundian MPs should no longer serve as Bujumbura representatives.

“I got a letter from the Speaker of the National Assembly of Burundi informing me that four members of the assembly who come from Burundi are supposed to lose their representation in the House,” Mr Kidega said addressing a Press conference Monday in Kigali.

Mr Kidega said he will be hold a meeting with concerned parties before he responds to Burundi.

The four MPs representing Burundi in EALA who were recalled include Jeremie Ngendakumana, Martin Nduwimana, Yves Nsabimana and Fredereque Njenzebuhoro.

For the next two weeks, EALA, sitting in Kigali, will be debating the EAC Forest Management and Protection Bill and the EAC Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Bill.
