The United States is currently training 1,000 DRC soldiers as part of an eight-month-long programme that could cost up to $40 million.

The US Africa Command, which operated last year on a $310 million budget, is supplying the trainers and kit.

The Obama regime is, meanwhile, asking the US Congress to supply $16 million for the coming year to support military training in Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa.

A separate $10 million allocation sought by President Obama is intended to be used for an East African regional counter-terrorism programme that involves training and equipping special military units in Kenya and other countries in the region.

In the current year, $60 million is being spent for the US Combined Joint Task Force/Horn of Africa, which operates from Djibouti.
