In Tanzania’s Kasulu Police Station, rape between grown men and against minors aged below 10 is common and ranks highest among the types of sexual violence in Kasulu District.
Where specific sexual crimes are in place, the wide discretion by courts results in largely reduced sentences.
For instance, in Tanzania, when an adult accused person is found guilty of rape, the minimum sentence is imposed.
In Kenya, prior to the Sexual Offences Act, harsher sentences were often reversed and reduced on appeal.
