Four East African hotels have been named among the 25 best hotels in Africa according to the world’s biggest travel website TripAdvisor.

Three of the hotels are in Tanzania — the &Beyond hotel at Ngorongoro Crater, the Baraza Resort and Spa at Bwejuu, the Residence Zanzibar at Kizimkazi and one in Kenya — the Medina Palms at Watamu.

The Baraza resort, which was ranked 10th was described as “spacious and nicely furnished.” The review added the gardens and pool “are very well maintained. The food was excellent and varied and the quality of the staff and service were impeccable. This is a wonderful place for a complete chill out.”

The &Beyond hotel was rated as “five star” while the Residence was described as “excellent.”

Kenya’s one hotel was described as a “really special place,” which is “superbly relaxing.”

TripAdvisor’s ratings are based purely on travellers who use its website who then send in reviews of the accommodation they have stayed in.

It has had over 170 million reviews since it was formed in 2000 and now has over 280 million visitors to its website each month.

Around four million different types of accommodation have been reviewed by customers worldwide in 44 countries so being ranked among the top 25 hotel destinations in Africa is a real mark of success.

Tripadvisor also names Diani Beach, Stone Town in Zanzibar, Watamu, Mombasa and Nairobi as being among its top 25 destinations for travellers in Africa.
