MARY OKELLO (KENYA)
One of Kenya’s foremost entrepreneurs, Mary Okello is the founder and director of the Makini Group of Schools. With a background in banking, she would have been most suited for a career in the financial world but opted, in 1978, to set up her first kindergarten. Since that beginning, Makini has grown into one of East Africa’s most eminent educational institutions. Okello is however still involved in micro-financing, where she chairs the board of the Kenya Women Finance Trust.
