Supported by the International League of Associations for Rheumatology, the initiative also seeks to improve the curriculum training of medical workers in the region, improve the arthritis knowledge among medical workers, set up a specialist referral centre as well as a centre of excellence for training rheumatology in East Africa.

The initiative has been ongoing for a year involving health workers, patient groups such as the Lupus Foundation of Kenya and the Association for Arthritis and Rheumatic Diseases of Kenya, as well as doctors from various groups.

The initiative has so far held workshops for both patients and health workers and is currently working on developing a curriculum.
