For the past three years, the flower council has been carrying out audits for the Kenya Bureau of Standards under the KS1758 for cut flowers and ornamentals national standards, a basic requirement for exports.
Another positive signal is the revelation that he Cabinet has approved a Bill seeking to grant autonomy to the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (Kephis), raising hopes for enhanced research and financing partnerships with international peers.
Kephis currently enjoys good ratings in the region, with its test laboratories in Nairobi being Africa’s best, outside South Africa.
