“It will be an interim entity with public interest mediation. Illiteracy and apathy are high among consumers, the majority of whom do not know the details of the technology,” said Mr Asiimwe.

He decried the lack of specific consumer protection legislation and laws in Uganda. It is expected that demand for redress will outstrip the capacity of the lobby as soon as the group starts work later this month.

Meanwhile, I-Network Uganda a local non-governmental organisation that acts as a platform for sharing knowledge using ICT, promised to assist the lobby group.
